Day 1 - Volcanoes National Park

You’ll be collected from your accommodation in Kigali and driven along winding roads through the ‘Land of a thousand hills’ to reach the foothills of the Virunga Volcano chain which marks the border between Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. On reaching your accommodation you will have views across the volcanoes including the jagged peaks of Mount Sabyinyo, where you can unwind over a lazy lunch. This afternoon you will be taken to explore the Musanze Caves close by to your lodge. You’ll be accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who will explain the caves formation and the local history of the caves, which have been used as a refugee in times of war for centuries. On your return to your lodge you will invited to a demonstration of traditional music and Intore dance as the sunsets across the volcanoes before you spend a relaxing evening under the African stars.

Day 2 - Meet a Gorilla Family

Experience Rwanda’s greatest natural wonder, an intimate meeting with one of the eight habituated gorilla families of Volcanoes NP. Begin with an orientation from wildlife rangers on tracking the gorillas, before they guide you through the rainforest. They’ll identify the local plants, birds and wildlife as well the general ecosystem of Volcanoes NP for you. The trek length varies, depending on where the gorillas have spent the night and can range from 2 – 5 hours. Once you find these incredible creatures you will spend one hour with them. We think you’ll agree it’s one of the most magical experiences you can have in nature, to see this unique family feed, socialise, nurse their young, patrol and display their prowess. You will then trek out of the rainforest where your drive will be waiting to take you back to your lodge for an afternoon of relaxation.

Day 3 - Heading Home

Take a slower start to the day after gorilla tracking the previous day. Spend the morning relaxing at your lodge or you can opt to return to Kigali for a city tour (*for an additional cost). After lunch your driver will take back through ‘land of a thousand hills’ to Kigali International Airport in time for your flight home.
